Too late in Australia I think. This morning 3 confirmed cases, now 7. I think we can expect it to spread really quickly now. Sad

World Health Organisation have said that this is just going to get really bad soon. Right now it's not much to what we will have soon. It is going to hit hard in a few weeks.

they are totally guessing.. they look at a map tht marks where the current cases r and where cases have occured and make a random guess as to when and where the next bunch of cases will happen..

i mean seriously.. we all kno theres gonna b more cases of it... its not exactly rocket science

... seriously, watch the viral spread trends...

its dropped drastically, it's only spreading little by little now, and by the time it does get to those hard to reach places... most will have started vaccinations.

13 cases of swine flu in Australia
Football matches could be cancelled
Virus spreading faster than expected
THE Federal Government's decision to move to a containment stage to deal with swine flu will be disruptive but necessary, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd says.

There are now 14 confirmed cases of swine flu in Australia with Victorian authorities today saying a Melbourne teen had the virus.

"The Government has acted in response to each and every recommendation put to the government by the professional health authorities across our nation," he said.

"This will of course involve inconvenience to communities as certain schools are temporarily closed down."

Mr Rudd said he understood that would cause inconvenience to families.

There are now 13 cases in Australia - eight in Victoria after a young western suburbs boy last night was declared the latest victim - and the priority is limiting the spread of infection, the Herald Sun reports.

Health Minister Nicola Roxon said yesterday the Government was ready to distribute its stockpile of the antivirals Tamiflu and Relenza. The Government has 8.7 million shots of the drugs in reserve.

She warned of extreme measures if the virus spread, such as cancelling football matches, closing schools and childcare centres, and ordering workers to stay home.

Ms Roxon said people should not panic but added: "We do need to treat the spread of this disease as a fairly serious matter."

Most at risk were children, pregnant women, asthmatics, diabetics and "the grossly obese".

Victoria's acting chief health officer, Dr Rosemary Lester, said the virus was spreading faster than expected.

She said if schools were found to be a major source of spreading the disease then closing them was best.

"Once the virus gets in, it is very difficult to stop its spread," she said. "We must recognise this will be in the community sooner or later."

The new alert came after the first case of human to human transmission was confirmed at Clifton Hill Primary.

The boy lives in the same area as Clifton Hill Primary, which has been closed after two brothers, aged 9 and 10, who holidayed in the US, became sick and infected a fellow classmate.

One pupil who is quarantined is Raffy Smith, 8, but her mother Janine Scott said it was business as usual at home.

"The kitchen table is an office, the rest of the house is a playground," Ms Scott said.

"We're a working family and we don't get as much time with our kids as we would like, so an extra week's time with them isn't a terrible thing."

Results of at least 20 more suspected cases are pending.

The Federal Government has begun newspaper and radio advertisements advising how to combat swine flu.

Victorian Health Minister Daniel Andrews said the state's pandemic plan was ready to go.

Department of Human Services spokesman Bram Alexander said Victorians should not rush to their doctor to obtain anti-viral medication unless necessary.

Premier John Brumby said cases of swine flu in Australia so far were "no more severe than normal flu".
